Heather Kimmel

[Heather.Kimmel@emory.edu].

Year Graduated : 1997
Graduate Advisor : Steven Holtzman
Current Position :Assistant  Professor, Department of Pharmacology, Emory University School of  Medicine, Assistant Research Professor, Division of Neuroscience,  Yerkes National Primate Research Center, Emory University

Day-to-day activities : My job entails overseeing the Day-to-day activities of a nonhuman primate behavioral pharmacology laboratory. These activities include conducting self-administration studies, vascular surgeries, and other procedures. I also oversee in vivo microdialysis studies in nonhuman primates. My day also involves analyzing behavioral pharmacology data and preparing this data for presentations and/or publications.
Words of wisdom : Graduate students should choose an advisor that can best guide them in their pursuit of a productive research career, rather than solely on the research project available in the lab. A good mentor that they can relate to will benefit them during their graduate careers and beyond. They also need to be aware that there are many other career options besides academic positions and that it's important to pursue the career that fits their personalities best.
